Ampeg Bass Amps
In the 1940's rock music was the in thing and it just didn't come out right with the tube amplifiers that would make a mess out of the sound and it is there that the Ampeg bass amplifier was born.
History of the Ampeg bass amplifier
Everet Hull and Stanley Michaels, the brains behind the Michaels-Hull Electronic labs as Ampeg was originally called, hated the way tube amplifiers would break up and create an awful distorted sound when really worked up. They therefore worked together to develop a pick up (peg) that would ideally be placed or fixed on an upright bass for less distortion.
This inspired a change of the company name to Ampeg bassamps after Hull gained sole proprietorship of the company.
As rock music became increasingly popular, larger amplifiers were needed to quench the guitar hungry crowds that thronged the concerts in large numbers. Ampeg built innovations to match up to this demand including the protaflex. In this version of the widely used amplifier, the chasis could fit into the speaker thus protecting the valves from damage on stage and at home.
Thereafter, the company came up with SVT also known as Super Valve technology that increased the range of amplification by up to 300watts.
Use of the Ampeg bass amps
Rock music demands high use of various guitars. These guitars need to be heard thus the evolution of the Ampeg guitar bass amplifier. The STV amps are probably the most sought after guitar amps on earth due to their clear bass punch that lacks in many other similar brands.
The V series amplifiers made a big hit for their crunch sound and the kind of clarity they created to any kind of music ranging from Jazz to Rock.
Ampeg bass amplifiers, thanks to the innovative team behind the company brand, took up the idea that accessorizing would work well for the company. They then came up with the first baby bass guitar complete with a long wooden neck that worked perfectly with Ampeg amplifiers.
This idea has grown to possibly be the best for Ampeg with the production of upright and horizontal bass guitars that attract more and more people to this brand.
Over the years, several of these guitars have been reissued by Ampeg due to public demand even though the original versions were firs manufactured in the 1960's.
Famous Ampeg bass amp users
This amplifiers and their accessories were first made for the growing rock music industry therefore the majority VIP users of this equipment are predominantly rock musicians with a couple of Jazzists here and there.
